2001: Telford, INTEGER Classroom of the Future
‘Classroom of the Future’ was a national initiative by the DfES to create innovative new models for classrooms. We created two prototype classrooms using upgraded Yorkon steel modules and purpose designed Apropos solar spaces fabricated off site for rapid construction. We incorporated enhanced teaching and learning technologies, and a range of environmental features. The project was opened by Education Minister Charles Clarke.
The two classrooms are now used as Learning Innovation Centres supporting cross-curricula, child focused, project based, technology supported learning. The Learning Innovation Centre manager loves the facility, teachers and children are enthusiastic. This project offers an exciting model for the future.
Award: CABE ‘Building Sights’ Award 2003, for involvement of the whole school community in the design process.
